Squirrels in a nutshell…

Squirrels is the newest section to be added to the Scouting movement. The 3rd Alton Squirrel Drey “Sycamore Dell” started in the Autumn of 2024. We have around 12 Squirrel Scouts aged 4-6 who meet once a week on Tuesday evenings to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way. Being a Squirrel Scout is all about fun and friendship while growing and learning. Our one hour sessions are a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.

Sessions are packed with outdoor activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life.

Squirrels wear a bright red sweatshirt with a 3rd Alton Group scarf. Like the other Sections, Squirrels can earn badges to proudly display on their uniform. There’s an activity badge or staged badge to suit each and every Squirrel! In addition there are Challenge Awards packed with awe and awesome, perfect for anyone who’s ever asked ‘Why?’ (or ‘Why not?’). Squirrels think about what makes them unique and learn to be the best friend they can be, enjoy their first camp fire and meet some new people.
